About Us

how we began

Chester School of Dance (CSD) was founded by Rosemary Chester. Having trained in Classical Ballet with Desmond Domican in Dublin since she was a child, Rosemary decided to train as a teacher with him when she later returned to live in Dublin with her family. Having gained her Licentiate Ballet with the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), Rosemary set up her own school. It has operated in the greater Dublin & Meath areas since then. Sara Chester also trained with Desmond Domican from the age of 3 until she had reached Intermediate level , when he retired. Rosemary Chester took over her training and Sara took her Associate Ballet and Associate Freestyle teaching standards with the IDTA. Since the school began it has gone from strength to strength each year. New IDTA subjects have been introduced to complement the core Classical Ballet school including Freestyle & Hip Hop, Musical Theatre & Tap Dancing, Theatrecraft, Contemporary & Lyrical dance. New venues are being added so we can bring our ethos of learning the art of dance in a fun and caring environment to as many people as possible.

What We Teach

We offer dance classes for boys, girls, teens and adults of all ages and levels in Classical Ballet, Hip Hop & Freestyle, Jazz, Tap dancing & Musical Theatre, Contemporary and Lyrical Dance. We also run Little Stars pre school dance classes.

We are members of the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA). All teachers and student teachers are fully trained through the IDTA syllabus and have gained Internationally Recognised qualifications. They have years of professional dance and teaching experience to ensure quality instruction. Classes are based on the IDTA (www.idta.co.uk) syllabus & teaching system. The IDTA is one of the world’s largest examination boards, covering the full spectrum of dance examinations on a global scale, with over 7,000 members in 55 countries. The Association celebrated its centenary in 2003.Each IDTA syllabus is age appropriate to match the abilities of the students for that grade level. Students are evaluated objectively by IDTA examiners & adjudicators. Our Showcase every second year in a professional facility provides valuable performance experience. Classes follow the school year beginning in September and ending in June.
